A chain operator is designed to be mounted to the handwheel of a diaphragm valve. The chain operator is used for operating the valve in an overhead location where the hanging looped chain is accessible. A lock-link looped chain is fed through one side of the operator and out the other, then joined continuous by using the Masterlink or by mechanical fastening. By pulling on the chain, the valve handwheel is activated to turn the valve stem either counter-clockwise to open or clockwise to close the valve. Diaphragm valves for use with chain operators must be molded body flanged. Chain operators can be factory or field installed on Asahi/America Type-14/15/G 1/2″ – 10″ flanged-model diaphragm valves.

A 2″ square operating nut is designed to be installed directly to the valve stem, replacing the standard handwheel. This operating nut permits opening and closing of valves using an industry standard extended T-bar wrench or key. This type of option is most typically used in below grade, out of physical reach, locations. The 2″ square operating nut is an industry standard accessory that can be field installed on all Asahi/America 1/2” – 4” Type-14, 5” – 6” Type-15, and 8” – 10” Type-G manual diaphragm valves.

Asahi/America’s TI diaphragm valves are specifically designed for processing chlorines and chlorates in chlor-alkali and caustic soda production plants. The valve features an injection-molded, solid PVDF flanged body with a strong and durable PPG bonnet. This field proven and industry preferred valve also boasts features that help eliminate the corrosion of stainless steel fasteners common in such applications. The Ti Type-14/15 diaphragm valve is designed with a unique three-layer construction: an EPDM backing cushion; a PVDF gas barrier; and a layer of PTFE – the only wetted part. Superior corrosion protection is achieved by offering a palladium-titanium diaphragm insert that connects the diaphragm to the valve compressor via a palladium-titanium stem connection joint. Light weight and corrosion resistant titanium bolts, nuts, washers, studs and body inserts sandwich the diaphragm between the body and bonnet creating a reliable seal.
Available in sizes of 1/2″ through 4″, the TI is suitable for temperatures of up to 250° F, and working pressures of up to 150psi. It can be pneumatically or electrically actuated.

The type-14 diaphragm valve has been specified with confidence since 2002. Design features include industry-leading body-to-bonnet sealing performance isolating the bonnet components from the media, high visibility position indication with built-in travel stop providing visual confirmation while minimizing compressive strain across the diaphragm, and smooth ergonomic handle operation. Bubble-tight sealing can be achieved even in tough applications containing suspended particles or slurries. Controlled flow characteristics are achieved by way of an internal weir design, requiring fluid to flow over the raised center section of the body where the body and diaphragm meet. The molded thermoplastic valve body and diaphragm are the only components in contact with the media.
Asahi’s type-14 diaphragm valve features a three-layer EPDM/PVDF/PTFE diaphragm providing a gas barrier protecting the bonnet internals from aggressive off-gassing chemicals such as sodium hypochlorite. The Type-14 diaphragm valve body is of one-piece molded flanged construction, which provides a shorter overall dimension and fabrication-free body construction.
For maximum corrosion resistance, the type-14 diaphragm valve’s body and bonnet are manufactured from solid thermoplastic materials. The type-14 diaphragm valve can be pneumatically or electrically actuated.
