Stem extensions are valve handle extensions, designed for use on valves located areas where standard configuration valve handles are inaccessible. They provide a direct connection between the actual valve stem and the relocated valve handle. Single piece stem extensions attach direct to the valve stem and the moving stem is exposed. Two-piece stem extensions consist of not only the single piece stem extension, but are also provided with an outer housing. The outer housing acts an outer sleeve which fits over the inner stem extension protecting the moving inner stem extension in buried applications. Support brackets and plates are typically used with both types of extensions. They provide a strong anchoring point for heavy gear-operators on butterfly valves, or prevent lateral movement on single piece lever handle extensions.

A chain operator is designed to be mounted to the handwheel of a gate valve. The chain operator is used for operating the valve in an overhead location where the hanging looped chain is accessible. A lock-link looped chain is fed through one side of the operator and out the other, then joined continuous by using the Masterlink or by mechanical fastening. By pulling on the chain, the valve handwheel is activated to turn the non-rising valve stem either counter-clockwise to open or clockwise to close the valve. Chain operators can be factory or field installed on Asahi/America gate valves.
Ideal Applications Include:
Overhead locations
- For use with 1-1/2″ – 14″ gate valves

A 2″ square operating nut is designed to be installed directly to the valve stem, replacing the standard handwheel. This operating nut permits opening and closing of valves using an industry standard extended T-bar wrench or key. This type of option is most typically used in below grade, out of physical reach locations. The 2″ square operating nut is an industry standard accessory that can be field installed on all Asahi/America gate valves.
Ideal Applications Include:
Below grade valve installations, municipalities, water parks, water features
- For use with 1-1/2″ – 14″ gate valves
- 6061 Aluminum with anodized finish

The gate valve is the most widely used on/off valve for large diameter, full port applications. When the valve is fully open, it allows straight-through passage through and opening that is essentially the same size as the inside diameter of the connecting pipe. This is why there is little pressure drop through an Asahi/America gate valve. The valve operates when the hand wheel and stem screw (or electric actuator) move a cylindrical plug, the gate, up and down at right angles to the fluid flow. Traditionally, gate valves have been used only for on/off service, but because the unique Asahi/America sliding plug design provides a larger seating area than conventional gate valves, it can be used for throttling. This significantly larger seating area, which runs 360 degrees around the cylindrical plug, has also virtually eliminated the valve chatter normally associated with gate valves. Asahi/America gate valves feature a solid polypropylene plug with a non-rising stem design.
